I find this show one of the funniest sketch show of the past years, but it’s not for everyone. It’s set in a surreal parallel. Review

The Wrong Door is a Brittish comedy sketch show from 2008. It’s set in a surreal parallel universe where film and TV special effects are part of everyday life. In this world, superheroes, wizards and dinosaurs are commonplace in the daily merry-go-round of car chases, explosions and disasters.
As with many sketch shows, this show has a number of recurring characters and sketches throughout every episode. Here are 2 of them:
-Philip and Melanie
Melanie has boyfriend trouble. Philip is rather insensitive and many of her friends and family think he's "a wanker". He left his previous employment at Nottingham Trent University due to a number of anger management issues. He has a curious habit of tearing people to pieces, being, as he is, a large carnivorous dinosaur.
-Superhero Tryouts
A parody of the popular talent show genre of television, Superhero Tryouts is a fictional television show looking for the next popular superhero. Hosted by Captain Justice, Lady Libido and Doctor Fox.

Black Books

Short description

A great british television series starring comedians Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey and actress Tamsin Greig. It was a very funny comedy series about a book store. All the actors are very authentic which makes it so funny. If you haven't seen it, try to. Otherwise you're really missing out. It has 3 seasons.

Cast
Dylan Moran ....... as ........Bernard Black (18 episodes, 2000-2004)
Bill Bailey ....... as ........Manny Bianco (18 episodes, 2000-2004)
Tamsin Greig ....... as ........Fran Katzenjammer (18 episodes, 2000-2004)
Rosie Day ....... as ........Rachel (3 episodes, 2000)
Paul Beech ....... as ........Abbott / ... (2 episodes, 2000)
Daisy Campbell ....... as ........Julie (2 episodes, 2000)
Ben Homewood ....... as ........Fourth Customer / ... (2 episodes, 2000)
Nick Frost ....... as ........Paul / ... (2 episodes, 2000-2004)
Tony Way ....... as ........Boy / ... (2 episodes, 2000)
Graham Linehan ....... as ........Book Lover / ... (2 episodes, 2000)

Review

The series revolves around Bernard's loathing of the outside world and all the people who inhabit it, except his oldest friend, Fran Katzenjammer. Bernard displays little enthusiasm or interest in retail (or, indeed, anything outside drinking, smoking and reading) and refuses to interact with anyone outside his bookshop, or even inside, as Bernard has a personal hatred of customers. Many episodes are driven by Manny and Fran's attempts to force him into a more socially acceptable lifestyle. However, despite their attempts, and Manny's strong social skills, their efforts usually result in chaos, sucking them back into Bernard's nihilistic view of the world.
The series is notable for its surreal and off-beat sense of humour, particularly when regarding the state of the shop: it is frequently depicted to be in an unhealthy state of dirtiness

Review

Coupling is almost entirely based around the antics of the six main characters. Susan Walker and Steve Taylor are a new couple still dealing with the baggage of their exes. Susan used to date Patrick Bateman, a playboy who thinks he’s the hottest man alive. Sally Harper is a beauty therapist who is Susan’s best friend, and is now dating Patrick. Steve’s ex-girlfriend, Jane Christie, is a bisexual woman who refuses to be dumped unless she’s the one doing the dumping. Jeff Murdoch is Steve’s best friend and his “porn buddy” (they each agree to take the other’s porn in the event of their death before their parents see it.) Jeff works in the same office as Susan, and had an unsuccessful one-night fling with her once, but backed out because of nerves.

Review

The Office is a mockumentary type of tv-series. The primary vehicle for the show is that a camera crew has decided to film Dunder Mifflin and its employees, seemingly around the clock. The presence of the camera is acknowledged by the characters, especially Michael Scott, who enthusiastically participates in the filming. Others, for example Jan Levinson, are frequently annoyed or uncomfortable at its presence. The main action of the show is supplemented with talking-head interviews or "confessionals", with the characters speaking one on one with the camera crew about the day's events. Sometimes two characters share an interview, speaking with each other and the camera at the same time. This occurs most notably with Jim and Pam, or, occasionally, Oscar and Kevin or Kelly and Ryan, and once, Michael and Toby. Dwight frequently interrupts Michael's interviews, as he is often standing off-screen next to Michael as the interview begins. Some characters use the camera's presence to their advantage. In other instances, the camera seemingly has affected plot lines.
In early episodes, the camera crews seemed confined primarily to the office setting, but as the show has expanded to include more about the characters' personal lives, the cameras have taken on an often-omnipresent, even intrusive persona. Characters are often followed out of the office and sometimes even to their homes.

Hippies

Short description

A funny Brittish comedy series with Simon Pegg. Hippies is based around a group of hippies in Notting Hill. It’s not the best comedy series of all time, but it’s definitely worth watching. It has only 6 episodes.

Cast
Simon Pegg ....... as ........Ray Purbbs (6 episodes, 1999)
Julian Rhind-Tutt ....... as ........Alex Picton-Dinch (6 episodes, 1999)
Sally Phillips ....... as ........Jill Sprint (6 episodes, 1999)

Geraldine McNulty ....... as ........Mum (4 episodes, 1999)
Simon Kunz ....... as ........Professor Rickman (3 episodes, 1999)
Peter Serafinowicz ....... as ........Narrator / ... (2 episodes, 1999)
Paul Bigley ....... as ........Hippy / ... (2 episodes, 1999)

Review

Notting Hill, 1969 and Ray is the editor of 'Mouth' – an underground magazine, based on the famous 'Oz' publication. He produces the magazine with Jill and Alex. Hugo appears to work there but his creative input is limited to childlike sketches. Ray is a deeply committed hippy but is completely unable to do anything – his idea to stage a giant protest ends in him and Alex campaigning for world peace at a sandpaper exhibition. Alex is laconic, posh, well educated and always seems too well dressed and clean to be a hippy. Jill is a completely confused feminist who has an 'open' relationship with Ray (as neither has been able to find someone else).
Despite not sharing the house, they live a 'Young Ones' existence there, decorating it with CND logos and posters of Che Guevara – no doubt to inspire them in their important and 'life changing' work.

Spaced!

Short description

Lucy Akhurst ....... as ........Sophie (4 episodes, 2001)
Anna Wilson-Jones ....... as ........Sarah (4 episodes, 1999)

Review

Tim Bisley and Daisy Steiner are two London twenty-somethings who meet by chance in a cafe while both are flat-hunting. Despite barely knowing each other, they conspire to pose as a young professional couple in order to meet the requisites of an advertisement for a relatively cheap flat in the distinctive building at 23 Meteor Street, Tufnell Park, which is owned by and also houses the landlady, Marsha Klein. Also in the building is Brian Topp, an eccentric conceptual artist who lives and works on his various pieces in the ground floor flat. Frequent visitors are Tim's best friend, Mike Watt who ends up becoming a lodger after Marsha's daughter Amber "flies the nest", and Daisy's best friend, Twist Morgan.

The series largely concerns the colourful and surreal adventures of Tim and Daisy as they navigate through life, decide on what they want to do with their lives, come to terms with affairs of the heart, and try to figure out new and largely unproductive ways of killing time.

Review

The Office takes place at Wernham Hogg, a paper company in Slough, a dull town that breeds apathy, disgust, and boredom. In order to maintain even a semblance of sanity, the workers resort to a neverending series of pranks, usually at the expense of the humorless Gareth, a frightening looking young man who never tires of reminding us of his service in the Territorial Army. The most relentless prankster is Tim, a loser in his 30s who still lives at home, and is one of the few who knows that he’s throwing his life away in a flurry of mindless labor. And then we have Dawn, the receptionist who flirts with Tim, but maintains her engagement with the dreary Lee, who works in the warehouse. Other memorable characters include Chris Finch (a typically dickish sales rep), Keith (an overweight drone who does little but stare at his computer), and Jennifer, the manager of the outfit who sees through David’s transparent bullshit.

Sledge Hammer!

Short description

This has got to be the most hilarious show to ever pollute the airwaves. Sledge Hammer is a man's man, a parodical sexist pig who talks to the .44 magnum he carries in his shoulder-holster and drives around with a rocket-launcher in his trunk, and who presumes all suspects to be scum until proven otherwise. Hilarious show of the 80’s and it lasted 2 seasons.

Mark Blankfield ....... as ........Joey the Slug / ... (3 episodes, 1987-1988)
Joanne Baron ....... as ........Mrs. Flambo / ... (3 episodes, 1986-1988)

Review

Inspector Sledge Hammer of the San Francisco Police Department is a violent, sadistic, insensitive, yet oddly likable detective. His best friend is a .44 Magnum with a customized grip featuring a drawing of a sledgehammer. Hammer sleeps and showers with his gun, and even talks to it. He believes in shooting first and asking questions never. He also mentions that his favorite charity is "Toy Guns for Tots".
Hammer's partner is the beautiful Detective Dori Doreau, who is competent, kind, sensitive, intelligent, and sophisticated — everything Hammer is not. Doreau is often shocked and offended by Hammer's crass behavior and obnoxious attitude, but she appears to see some redeeming qualities beneath his gruff exterior. Hammer's blatant male chauvinism is a running gag in his dialogues with Doreau.

Review

The show follows the adventures of Gary Wallace and Wyatt Donnelly, two socially inept high school students in an unspecified town in California. Together, using Wyatt's computer, they try to create a computer simulation of a perfect woman in order to practice communicating with women. However, a freak lightning storm brings the computer simulation to life, creating a real woman named Lisa - a drop-dead gorgeous genius with the powers of a "magic genie." Also starring is Wyatt’s brother Chett, who is a military school graduate who turned down his commission, claiming that he didn't want to be sent overseas to work for "Third-World slackers". He lives with his parents and shows no interest in getting a job. Paranoid and angry, he takes out his frustrations on Wyatt. Mostly he takes Wyatt's things without asking and calls him names like "wuss-boy" and "pit-lick." He also has a vendetta against Principal Scampi (Bruce Jarchow), principal of the boys' high school.

Beavis and Butthead

Short description

Beavis and Butt-Head will be remembered for a long time. The gross, sick, and always hilarious show was the best show ever on MTV and probably nothing like it will ever come close. Poeple will always remember it's sick skits, it's dialogues at the couch during music videos, and many other things. This show led other shows like South Park into the promised land.

Kristofor Brown ....... as ........Additional Voices / ... (9 episodes, 1993-1997)

Masako Kanayama ....... as ........Additional Voices (6 episodes, 1994-1997)
John Andrews ....... as ........Phil / ... (5 episodes, 1993-1995)

Review

The show centers on two socially inept heavy metal-loving teenagers, Beavis and Butt-head, who live in the fictional town of Highland, Texas. They attend high school, where their teachers are often at a loss as to how to deal with them, although in many episodes, the two skip school. They occasionally work part-time at Burger World, and sometimes other side-jobs when people mistake their odd behavior as outgoing and assertive. Comedy is derived from their utter lack of conventional values such as work ethic. They are extremely obnoxious, misogynistic, and rude to almost every other character in the show and even to each other. They do not seem to realize this, however and seem to function on an instinctual level. They survive their often hazardous misadventures without serious consequences, though others around them don't fare as well. Mixed within each episode are segments in which Beavis and Butt-head watch music videos and provide humorous and bizarre commentary

Married ... with Children

"Married with Children" is the kind of show that does nothing for civilization and has no moral value...yet I got some of the biggest laughs in TV history from this show. It is still one of my all-time favorite series. I even enjoy watching the repeats over and over again. That's when you know a show is great. It has 11 seasons.

Cast
Ed O'Neill ....... as ........Al Bundy / ... (261 episodes, 1987-1997)

Ted McGinley ....... as ........Jefferson D'Arcy / ... (168 episodes, 1989-1997)
David Garrison ....... as ........Steve Rhoades / ... (80 episodes, 1987-1995)
Harold Sylvester ....... as ........Griff (44 episodes, 1994-1997)
Lucky ....... as ........Lucky the Dog (41 episodes, 1995-1997)

Review

Set in the Chicago suburbs, Married...With Children centers on the hapless Al Bundy, a high school football hero who finds himself trapped as a shoe salesman with a family that doesn’t respect him. Al’s biggest job at home is to avoid the sexual advances of his wife Peg, a redheaded woman with big hair, too much makeup and an tendency to spend money and watch talk shows all day while lying on the couch eating bon bons. (Peg seems to ignore such mundane tasks as cooking and cleaning for her family.) Despite Al’s lack of sexual interest in Peg, the couple had two children. Older daughter Kelly is to put it bluntly, the rather trampy type who has the intelligence of a refrigerator light bulb. Son Bud lives to torment Kelly but his fantasies of being a “ladies man” are beyond his grasp. The only family trait that brought the Bundys together was the desire to get something for nothing, or taking revenge on their angry neighbors–especially Steve and Marcy Rhodes, the lovey-dovey couple from across the street. Steve and Marcy were upscale Yuppies who couldn’t get their hands off of each other. Of course, that changed when they were exposed to Al and Peg’s marital philosophy, as Steve became more like sexist Al while some of Peg’s habits rubbed off on Marcy.

Review

In the year 2030, Ted Mosby gathers his daughter and son to tell them the story of how he met their mother.
The story begins in 2005 with Ted (Josh Radnor) as a single, 27-year-old architect living with his two best friends from college, Marshall Eriksen, a law student, and Lily Aldrin, a kindergarten teacher, who have been dating for almost nine years when Marshall proposes. Their engagement causes Ted to think about marriage and finding his soul mate, much to the disgust of his self-appointed best friend Barney Stinson whom he met in a bathroom after a night of drinks. Barney is known as a womanizer with an unnamed corporate job. Ted begins his search for his perfect mate. He meets an ambitious young reporter, Robin Scherbatsky, who he quickly falls in love with. Robin, however, doesn't want to rush into a relationship and the two decide to be friends. Future Ted reveals that Robin is not the mother after referring to her as his children's "Aunt Robin".

Review

The main characters were four undergraduate students sharing a house: violent punk metal Vyvyan, pompous would-be anarchist Rick, long-suffering hippie Neil, and the mysterious and diminutive Mike. It also featured Alexei Sayle, who played the quartet's landlord, Jerzy Balowski, and other members of the Balowski family.

The show combined traditional sitcom style with violent slapstick, non sequitur plot-turns and surrealism. These older styles were mixed with the working and lower-middle class attitudes of the growing 1980s alternative comedy boom, in which all the principal performers except Ryan had been involved.

Although the series was set in North London, many external scenes were filmed in Bristol. All four characters attended the fictional Scumbag College. As one of the characters (Neil) sometimes wore a University of London T-shirt, it seems likely that Scumbag is one of the University of London's constituent colleges. Although they were never seen attending the institution and were rarely seen studying.

Review

Richie and Eddie are two crude, perverted lunatics, with no jobs, very little money and only a filthy flat in Hammersmith to their name. The two spend their time coming up with desperate schemes to "Do it" with a real woman, beating each other up, and getting into dodgy deals and scrapes with the law.

Richie, is a clumsy pompous dimwit who attempts to make himself out as being much higher in social status than he actually is, and is both deranged and desperate, obsessed with sex, but—despite going to great lengths—never having it. Eddie, a cheerfully violent drunkard, meanwhile spends his time getting drunk and wasting the dole money, usually on pornographic magazines, although he occasionally has moments of demented genius. Eddie's friends—the gormless Spudgun and Dave Hedgehog—both fear Richie, thinking he's psychotic.

Both Richie and Eddie are obsessed with having sex. Richie is said to be a virgin. Eddie, on the other hand, is said to have had sex at least once (with Richie's 'girlfriend', Ethel Cardue), but still does not seem to enjoy a regular sex life.

Review

Jim Belushi stars as Jim, the macho everyman, with a soft spot for his beautiful wife, Cheryl (Courtney Thorne-Smith), and their three precocious kids -- Ruby (Taylor Atelian), Gracie (Billi Bruno) and Kyle (Conner Rayburn). A success at his construction business and the family breadwinner, at home… More Jim seems to keep Cheryl in constant turmoil with his boyish bravado and ever-willful antics. But their underlying love for each other guarantees they are in this marriage for keeps. Cheryl, for her part, instinctively aims for the straight and narrow, but secretly enjoys it when Jim coaxes out her playful side. It's an odd-couple tug-of-war of happily-married opposites yet equals. This is a love story couched in a family comedy. At the conclusion of last season, Cheryl's high-strung sister, Dana (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), a career woman who seemed destined to remain forever single, finally met and married a doctor and the man of her dreams (Mitch Rouse). Jim's brother-in-law and partner in the Ground Up design/building firm, Andy (Larry Joe Campbell), is Jim's foil but also his truest friend. Andy doggedly covers for his pal whenever Cheryl gets close to uncovering Jim's incessant schemes.
